Treatment planning

  • Step 1: Removal of old crown
  • Step 2: Orthodontic extrusion of #21 to level out the gingival margin and improve the crown fit
  • Step 3: Tooth preparation of #11 and #21
  • Step 4: Final adjustment and cementation of restorations

Yorumlar

  • Orthodontic extrusion often carries a risk of relapse within the short duration of final impressions being taken and permanent crowns being delivered from the lab.
  • The use of an Intraoral scanner enabled us to keep the attachments in place till the time final restorations were delivered.
  • The fixed attachments were removed virtually by the lab and the prosthesis could be successfully made without compromising the fit or taking a chance with relapse.
  • Getting a symmetrical gingival contour and matching zenith is a difficult task requiring periodontal surgery. In this case, we were able to facilitate new restorations with improved gingival architecture non-surgically by orthodontic extrusion followed by the use of an Intraoral scanner to retain the corrections and make better-fitting restorations.
